JoAnn Shirley HOVDESTAD

The family of JoAnn Shirley Hovdestad (nee Hanscam) sadly announce her passing on April 4, 2023 in Saskatoon, SK. at the age of 88 years. JoAnn was predeceased by her husband Roy in 2003. JoAnn is survived by her sister, Lilian Grue, her in-laws Doug Ferguson, Art and Sue Hovdestad, her five children, Wayne (Maria) Hovdestad, Alfred (Lauri) Hovdestad, Larry (Nancy Duns) Hovdestad, Neil (Trudy) Hovdestad, and Sheryl (Gareth) Farquhar; her grandchildren, Kevin (Kate) Hovdestad, Teri (Mike Myers) Hovdestad, William Hovdestad, Justin Hovdestad, Brady (Alicia Thornton) Hovdestad, Stephanie Hovdestad, Katherine (Andreas Skenderija) Hovdestad, Ireland Farquhar, Shayla Farquhar, Cooper Farquhar, and Josephina Hovdestad, and her great grandchildren, Evelyn Hovdestad and Timothy Hovdestad.

JoAnn was born in Claydon, SK but spent most of her childhood in Rolling Hills, AB. In 1956 she married Roy Hovdestad, a farmer from the Stewart Valley district and farmed in both Kyle and Wiseton. In 1974 the family settled permanently in Dinsmore.

JoAnn completed her Health Care worker course in 1985 and spent 15 years working at the Dinsmore Health Care Centre as a food service worker. She was very proud of her work there and wore her retirement watch with fond memories.

After the passing of her late husband, JoAnn moved to Saskatoon to be closer to family. JoAnn spent her retirement making memories with her children and grandchildren. She adored spending time with family and sharing her love of baking and knitting.

In her time in Saskatoon, JoAnn helped organize children’s school visits in her building, and enjoyed playing bingo, singing hymns, and visiting with new friends. She continued to bake, start new projects, and participate in craft sales in her community.

JoAnn was loved dearly by her family and friends. She never failed to put a smile on your face or lend a helping hand. She will be greatly missed.

A memorial service was held in Dinsmore on April 11 at 11:00 am at Dinsmore United Church with Reverend Aurora Espenant officiating. Followed by a light lunch at the Dinsmore Hall. Donations in her memory may be made to Dinsmore Health Care Centre.
