(John) Peter Follett
To sum up Peter’s life in a few short sentences is simply impossible. He was a kind man of immense integrity and patience. Some of the words his grandchildren have used to describe him include talented, musical, caring, kind-hearted, warm, funny, outdoorsy, crafty, creative, a creator, witty, a tinkerer, the best ribs-cooker, a family man. He literally just did everything for everybody. To many he was a mentor, role model, confidant, teacher, and friend.
Peter built things - wooden toys, dollhouses, cottages, boats, even an airplane. He loved to paddle, fish, hunt, cook, fly his plane, ski, and play his guitar; but most of all he liked to spend time with family and friends. He liked Kris Kristoferson, Gordon Lightfoot and scotch (with a dash of water- but not too damn much). He loved his dogs, especially Millie, the cows on the farm, and the many injured creatures he helped rescue over the years.
Professionally, Peter was a C.E.T graduate from Ryerson Institute of Technology, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for precision. He excelled in his field and was frequently called to consult on complicated projects – often traveling to remote destinations – to problem solve and provide insight. He spent time below decks and below the waves with the Navy, stationed in Halifax, the Azores, and on Georgian Bay.
His integrity and professionalism often found him in key volunteer roles, including as a Ski Patrol Leader, and later as the Ombudsman for the Canadian Ski Patrol - Central Zone. He was an avid outdoorsman, and champion of local environmental protection, serving in a variety of roles.
He had a gift of language, both written and spoken. He was most certain to be the MC at family weddings, read the eulogy at a funeral, and of course provide written articles for aviation and trade magazines. A practical joker – with a quick wit, his many pranks and follies are legendary amongst his family and friends.
Of the many places he lived, he so loved his new-found home of Elrose, Saskatchewan; a community that welcomed him, and he cherished so much.
An amazing soul, a wonderful person, he will be deeply missed. We are all so thankful for having you in our life Peter.
