Barbara June Millard, Mom passed away passed away at the Lucky Lake Health Centre on October 21, 2024 at 95 years of age. She was the daughter of Harry and Nellie Brown. She was born in Harris SK, however, she grew up and took her schooling in Tessier SK. After finishing school, she moved to Rosetown and worked as a telephone operator. It was in Rosetown that she met our Dad, Allan Millard. Dad worked for SaskPower, so they moved around for the first few years of their marriage…Rosthern then Kerrobert and then settling in Harris where Dad was district operator for SaskPower. Here they built a new house. Mom didn’t work out of the home but was a wonderful homemaker and mother.
In 1968 they bought the red and white store in Lucky Lake. The family moved there and Mom never left. Mom and Dad both worked hard in the grocery store business, later they sold the store and Dad went to work at the Lucky Lake Hospital/Health Centre. Mom opened a clothing store on Main Street in the former bank building. She started with blue jeans and work clothes, but it wasn’t long until it was shoes, magazines, lotto tickets, movie rentals and then finally ladies clothes, she also ran the Sears catalogue outlet. She worked (and loved it!), until she was 83! Mom loved to get dressed up and walk down the street to work everyday. She was always dressed so nice.
Mom was a worker, she loved to paint and wallpaper to fix things up. She loved and maintained the home including the yard and fence. Mom never had any hobbies she didn’t have time!
Dad passed away in 1990 at 62 years of age. Mom lived by herself in that big old house on Main Street (the old Red Cross Hospital) for 30 years. In her later years she loved to cook and invite someone over to share it with, Mom was generous to a fault. She was also a child of the depression and didn’t tolerate waste.
Mom never had any health issues until her later years. She had a mild heart attack and later a mild stroke, she moved to the Lucky Lake Health Centre in December of 2019 and she was very well cared for up until her passing.
We are all very grateful to have had her with us for as long as we did.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Debbie (Don) Jones, Kim (Brent) Baxter, Cam (Barb) Millard and Trent (Gerri) Millard, her grandchildren: Curtis (Susan) Jones, Tara Jones (Walter McLean), Tammy (Dave) Mulder, Jaime Procknow, Aaron Procknow, Sydney Millard, Derek Millard, Brody Millard (Caitlin Crompvoets) and Shauna Millard and her great-grandchildren: Kate (Travis) Semonok, Beth Mulder, Spenser Jones, Carson Jones and Quinton Jones
She was predeceased by her husband Al Millard, her parents Harry and Nellie Brown, her sisters Joyce (Al) Weeks and Hazel (Gordon) Stevens. Also by her in-laws Tom and Myrtle Millard, Willis and May Millard, Shari and Tony Dielschneider and Gladys and Murray Schneider.
