Katharine (GIBSON) MERCIER

Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Friend

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Katharine Mercier on July 15, 2025. Katharine was a devoted wife, mother, loving grandmother, supporting sister and treasured friend, whose warmth, strength and compassion touched everyone who knew her.

She was the proud and cherished mother and grandmother survived by her husband Gerard Mercier and children Joe (Barb) Mercier, Suzanne Mercier, Andre (Debbie) Mercier, Lisa (Joe) Calhoun (William, Benjamin, Thomas and Amelia) Jean Paul (Amanda) Mercier (Avril, Jeremy) Mathieu (Tracy) Mercier (Taylen, Dimitri and Lexi) Dominique (Teresa) Mercier, Patrick Mercier.

Katharine's life was defined by her kindness, quiet resilience, and unwavering love for her family and faith. She found joy in all life’s pleasures, whether working in the garden, on the farm or baking for her family and community. She enjoyed quiet time on the river fishing, sewing, and playing cards with the family especially at holidays and during the winter months.

Born in Kyle to Douglas and Augusta Gibson, she attended school at the ‘little white school house’ and later at Kyle composite where she graduated. Her roots around the farm life with her siblings Irvine (Janet) Gibson, Donna (Bob) Quinney, Edie (Dale) Grainger, Mariann (Ted) Grainger, and Karen Gibson, which provided a basis of support for those who will remember her.

Funeral Mass for Katharine was held July 18th at 11:00 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Elrose SK, followed by a luncheon in the church basement and a private interment for immediate family for her final resting place at Clearwater Cemetery.
