Kay HEATHERINGTON Obituary

With sadness, the family of Kay Heatherington announces her passing on May 22, 2026 at the age of 98.

Kay was born at Lloydminster, Alberta on July 23, 1927.  She spent her younger years in Lloydminster and Edmonton before the family moved to New Westminster, BC.  Kay began her career as a bank teller, where she worked with her friend Nina Heatherington.   Nina had a brother, Melvin, and the rest was history.  They were married on February 25, 1952 in New Westminster and enjoyed a honeymoon in Florida.   The following spring they moved to the Herschel area to begin their married life.

As a farm wife, Kay lived a life filled with hard work and love. She gardened, hauled grain, picked bales and raised her four children with care and dedication.  She was active in many community groups, including UCW and the Herschel Quilting and Recycling group.  Her passions included quilting, embroidery, crocheting, and flower gardening. Everyone agreed she made the best buns ever - so good that family members were known to hide extras away for later at family suppers.

After 55 years of marriage, Melvin passed away in 2007. Kay remained on the farm with Colin until 2019, when she moved to Saskatoon to live with Sandra for 2 years. In 2022, she entered assisted living.

Kay is survived by her four children Neil (Peggy), Sandra (Walter), Colin, Warren (Novalee) and by her brother, Roddy McLean. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren:

Stephanie (Neil) Forseille, Kevin (Rebecca), Aidan and Katelyn

Corrine (Travis) Wiens, Addison, Avery and Jillian

Crystal (Darrell) Rinas, Carson, Parker and Kenzie

Chantal (John) Kahovec, Mateah, Aubrey and Seyla

Justin (Sonja) Heatherington, Lennox and Weston

Brandon Heatherington

Kendall Heatherington.

She was predeceased by her husband, Melvin; her parents, Jim and Betty McLean; her uncle, Roddy; and her great-grandson, Preston.

The family misses her deeply and they cherish the life and love she shared with all of them.
