It is with heartfelt sorrow I announce the passing of my uncle & soul friend, Kevin Glen Galvin, residing at the Elrose Health Centre on June 8, 2023. We celebrated his 82nd birthday with joy and laughter as it was his final milestone and he was always amazed each year that passed.
Kevin was born on June 2, 1941 in Elrose to Jimmy and Irene Galvin. He was the baby of the family with one sister, Adele and one brother Ted. With the age gap between himself and his siblings, he was quite young when Ted and Adele married, giving him a new sister (Marion) and brother (Bud) in their spouses. He was a young uncle to their children and his heart held many memories in growing up part of their growing family life.
Kevin graduated high school and took Education as his career choice. His first position as a teacher was in Alberta and he met his first wife Eunice. They married and had two sons, Kevin Pat and Kelly Shaun (granddaughter Kaylee Shea). A career change with a family lead him to work in the Prison Corrections System and a move to the east coast to NB with his family and return again to AB. One more career change when he was accepted into the RCMP depot at Regina and graduated. One more move took the family to Sherwood Park Alberta and into his life work with K Division of the RCMP.
K Division work was demanding, travelling constantly across Canada and ultimately the consequences of that lead to more personal changes and one final move to his retirement dream acreage at Marwayne, AB. He transferred out of K division and retired out of the RCMP early after working patrol out of Kitscoty, AB. His farming roots gave him much joy with a few head of cattle, cats and always a dog or two maybe at times and the longest community stay he ever had living on his acreage at Marwayne.
Kevin made lasting friendships that survived the K Division years and many new friendships over time that have endured the aging years that come to us all. Kevin leaves us all to mourn the memories as is our personal journey. I for one am grateful to have many held in my heart for the space that has been left behind.
It is with deep gratitude for his 3 years of resident care and his end-of-life care in his hometown of Elrose, Saskatchewan. We say a heartfelt thank you to all of the staff there, nursing and care aides, and his physicians from the Rosetown Medical Group. Your acceptance and community caring allowed Kevin to truly spend his last few years in acceptance and safety living out his days with wit, sarcasm and compassion and ultimately respect - he healed and our precious time with him was made so much more. Thank you to the Elrose Legion for including him and making sure he got to meetings every month.
A Celebration of Kevin’s Life will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Shanidar Funeral Chapel, Rosetown, SK. Interment to follow at the Elrose Cemetery. Donations in memory of Kevin may be directed to Elrose Health Centre Resident Activity Fund, Box 100 Elrose, SK S0L 0Z0. Funds are strictly for the residents - our elder's fun!
