Leo HORNE Obituary

In  the small town of Maryhill Ontario, Leo Russell Corringdon Horne was born on December 19, 1931.

On April 14th, 1952 he married the Love of his Life, Audrey Elizabeth Zinger.  They would have celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary this April.  His life was devoted to our Mother and she especially will miss him.

Besides his wife, he is survived by ALL of his 8 children who were raised not so much by his words but by his strong , always respectful example.  Gary (Shane, Tara, Liam, Caitlin) Darline (Cindy, Amy, Jim) Rob (Shannon, Erin, Bobby) Ken (Danielle, Meghan, Ryan, Jordan) Ann (Jeremy, Alex) Karen - Randy (Alisha, Ashley, Tyler, Travis) Ron – Brenda (Sheldon, Abrianna, Shyla, Brandon, Taylor) Lisa – Darin (Tyson, Layden, Carter) .  Grampa/GGPA also leaves behind, (besides the28 grandchildren), 29 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren (5 Generations) for a total of 62 grandchildren.  He is also survived by 2 sisters, Carol Zinger and Sylvia Hergott and 1 sister-in-law Sheila Moore.

He is predeceased by his parents Edna and Leo Horne.  Mother and Father-in-Law,  Gertrude and Simon Zinger.  Three Brothers,  Jack, Terry and Jim.  Two Sisters , Marg and Nancy.  Three Brother-in-Laws, Bill Moore,  Clare Hergott  and George Zinger. One Son-in-Law, Harley Lehmkuhl  and one Daughter-in-Law, Rosemary Horne..

At the age of 12, Dad had to start to work and was hired at the local Chopping Mill.  It was a very physical job but he worked like that through his whole life, retiring at age 77.

Mom and Dad moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in April 1955, with 2 children, to join his uncle’s plastering business.  In April 1964 with 5 additional children, we moved back to Maryhill.  A year later, Dad built a house 4 miles away, had 1 more child and ran a successful drywalling. stucco and plaster business providing the training and livelihoods of many family members over the years.  Dad  acquired a  vast amount of knowledge over his lifetime  and the inspiration, guidance and support this family has lost with his passing will never be replaced.

He was a Founding and Lifetime Member of the Knights of Columbus in Maryhill, Ontario.  He was an avid gardener, won many trophies playing Horse Shoes,  loved salmon fishing and nightly card games with Mom.

Dad retired in Elrose in 1996 and in these later years their house had a revolving door for the large family he began.   The amount of love that was given and received over these years was immeasurable and he will be sorely missed.

He was a familiar sight, sitting in his chair facing the sunroom or at his computer, never saying too much.  When he did, he would use that dry sense of humour that always made the point perfectly.  We are going to miss the sharpness you had till the end Dad and only hope we can be half the person you were.  We know you are just around the corner and always in our hearts.

Prayers will be held Wed. Nov 26th at 7:00 p.m. at The Immaculate Heart Of Mary Parish in Elrose.  Everyone welcome.
