Leonard met Janice Lowe from Kyle, Sk  and the two were married on November 1, 1963.

Leonard and Janice lived on the Smid farm along the South Saskatchewan River. Leonard and Janice, had a family and spent many happy years on the farm.  In 2009, Leonard and Janice moved to Kyle, Sk.

Leonard is survived by Daughter, Sharice (Shari) Billett, Sons, Darren Smid (Barbara), and Leslie (Les) Smid (Scarlet). Leonard is survived by 8 grandchildren: Anthony Billett, Danielle Billett, and Derek Niedermayer, Kelsey Smid (Jeremy), Katelyn Smid (Noah), Megan Smid, Montana Smid, Matthew Smid ( Katey).  Leonard is also survived by 4 great grandchildren : Carson Billett – Moreside, Trace Billett -Gallant, Wyatt Billett and Emma Billett.  He is survived by his sister, Shirley Lucier,  brother in laws:  Archie (Lois) Lowe, Donald (Nancy) Lowe, and sister in law, Marilyn Lowe, along with many nieces and nephews.

Leonard was a dedicated and life long farmer, hard-working with a good sense of humour and always ready to laugh.  He was outgoing, and always loved a good conversation. He enjoyed fishing, a good game of cards, gardening and had a love for animals, particularly his granddogs.

Leonard and Janice rarely left each other's side in the 59 years that they were married. They enjoyed getting out to a variety of events including bingos. They went on and enjoyed many trips around Saskatchewan and tour bus trips, where they made new friends.

Leonard missed Janice deeply after she passed in 2022, his life was empty without her. He would drive around the country side and to the lake almost daily.  He loved his garden and started the quest to grow the largest radish around,  which we believed he had.

Leonard was proud of and loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He never missed an opportunity to tell others about them, especially,  if it has to do with Darren’s farming, Les’ business, or Shari’s dogs. He talked proudly about his grandchildren and their accomplishments, and day to day lives.

A day prior to his death, Leonard still managed to enjoy his family at his side or over the phone.

Leonard will be missed, by all who knew and loved him, find peace and comfort, that he is with his beloved wife, Janice again.
