Leslie "Les" WARDROP Obituary

Leslie (Les) James Wardrop, born September 9, 1953, passed away peacefully surrounded by friends in Rosetown on August 3, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer.

A beloved brother, uncle, great-uncle, coach and friend, he will be missed.

Les grew up with his two siblings on the family farm near Valley Centre, Saskatchewan.  After high school, he worked in BC for a short time before returning home to work on the farm, eventually taking over management after the passing of his father.  He was proud to receive the “Century Family Farm Award” in 2005 on behalf of the generations of Wardrop family that worked the land for over 100 years.  He served his community, following in his father’s footsteps as a Councillor in the RM of Marriott for 23 years.

Les’ passion was 5-pin bowling and the community that surrounded the sport.  He achieved many national-level individual and team awards, and eventually turned his focus to coaching and administration as President of the Saskatchewan Master Bowlers Association.  He enjoyed traveling the country and made many great friends within the bowling community.

Les was predeceased by his father and mother, Jack and Irene Wardrop, and his brother John.

He is survived by his sister Leona (Oscar) Giacetti, niece Jennifer Giacetti, nephew John (Kim) Giacetti and their children Jack, Eliana and Sofia, along with sister-in-law Sandra Warrington.

Thank you especially to Penny and Jennifer and numerous other friends that cared for Les while he was ill and to the great medical staff that provided treatment during these difficult times.

A public visitation was held on Friday, August 12, 2022 at Shanidar Funeral Services. The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rosetown United Church with Reverend Allan Gairns officiating followed by the interment in the Rosetown Cemetery.
