Lois LINKLATER Obituary

It is with great sadness and love that the family of Lois Bethesda Linklater announces her passing, at the age of 89 years, on the morning of Monday, May 25, 2026 after a life of dedication to all around her.

Lois was born in Rosetown Hospital to Tom and Beth McDonald.  She grew up on the family farm in the Dollybrae community north of Zealandia and started school in Dollybrae attending until Grade 9 when she went to Sovereign to live with her sister Bea and then she finished her schooling in Rosetown.

Being the only daughter left at home she learned farming at an early age, helping her dad with the farm as her mom was often away nursing in the community.

Lois attended Teachers’ College in Saskatoon and in 1955 she started teaching in Cactus Lake.   The next year she moved to Howard Powell to teach.

On July 24, 1957 she married her high school sweetheart, Ron Linklater.  Together they raised a family as they farmed for over fifty-five years until Ron’s death in 2012.  She continued to help her son, Larry, on the farm.  They had three children: Linda (Doug) Varty, Larry Linklater, and Lorna (Grant) Dosch.  Grandma Lois was cherished by her grandchildren: Arlene (AJ) Nichols, Raymond (Mel) Varty; Max, Ted, Sydney (Tanner) and Zac Linklater; and Josie (Matthew) Dosch.  Nana was loved by great-granddaughters Freya, Ingrid, Rowan and Isla.

Driven to support her community, she led Sunday School, CGIT and Sunbeams, and 4-H, and coordinated the kitchen in the Sovereign Rink, was an active member of the Sovereign and Rosetown United Churches, WI, UCW, Rosetown Dance Club, the Friday afternoon Bowling League and many others.  Lois was always involved in community events both in Sovereign and later in Rosetown.

Lois always had a warm smile and welcomed many friends into her home and visits by Ron and Lois were always friendly and full of fun.

She was predeceased by her parents Tom and Beth McDonald; her sisters: Beatrice (Hugh Sinclair) (Don) Head, and Dorothy (Bill) Linklater: parents-in-law Jack and Edna Linklater; brother-in-law Allan (Agnes) Linklater; daughter-in-law Brenda Linklater; and nephew Charles Robin Linklater.

A celebration of Lois’s life will be on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at 11:00 am in Rosetown United Church with Reverend Jan Coffey-Olson officiating.  Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Saskatoon at 3:00 pm.

Memorial donations may be made to: Rosetown United Church or the Rosetown Teahouse or a charity of your choice.
