It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Lorne “Sandy" Alexander Campbell, beloved husband of Betty Campbell of Elrose. Sandy passed away peacefully at the Elrose Health Centre on February 1, 2020 at the age of 88 years.
Sandy was brought home to the family farm house after he was born in Elrose on April 29, 1931. This was his home until his death except for his university years and a brief stay at the Elrose Lodge. He attended school in Elrose and went on to take two years of Vocational Agriculture at the U of S. He married Betty Alexander from Dinsmore in 1951. The home farm expanded over the years and Sandy was eventually joined by his sons Ken and Duncan and grandchildren Neil, Nadine and Ryan. Over the years, this farm has included the grain, pigs, cattle and chickens.
Sandy was an active member of the Elrose United Church. He held various positions on the school board and led various 4H groups. He got his bus driver’s license to drive for the band trips when Lorna joined the Eston Elrose School Band. One of his favorite activities was square dancing; he and Betty travelled with the square dancers to places such as Hawaii, Florida, California, Tennessee and Alaska.
Sandy is survived by his wife Betty and children Ken Campbell (Elaine), Beth Campbell (Doug Carlson), Duncan Campbell (Louise), Tena (Dale Stewart) and Lorna Campbell; grandchildren Janice Irwin (Shawn), Neil Campbell (Debra), Heather Hubbard (Robert), Russell Campbell (Katherine), Christy Carson (Trevor), Lisa Johnstone, John Johnstone, Karla Ilott (Trent), Nadine MacDonald (Dane), Ryan Campbell (Jena), Danielle Carmichael (Stuart), Natasha Phillips (Matthew), Jeffrey Stewart, Elise Thompson (Phillip) and Andrea Pietila (Ben) along with 27 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
