It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lucille Schiltz on May 22, 2024, after a courageous year-long battle with cancer.
Lucille was born on December 13, 1936, in the Lake Lenore, SK hospital. She was the seventh of nine children born to Frank and Anna (Ebert) Ehalt. She was raised on a farm southwest of Annaheim ,SK until age 8. Her family then moved to a farm east of Pilger, SK until she was in grade eight. After her father’s sudden death in 1949 the family moved back to the town of Annaheim.
Lucille worked at a variety of jobs during her school years, including caretaking duties at the Annaheim school, as well as numerous babysitting and general housekeeping jobs for various families in the area. Lucille also worked at the Annaheim post office and was a switchboard operator at the telephone office from time to time. This experience resulted in her getting a job at the Middle Lake telephone office for a short time before moving to Humboldt and getting a job at Bauer’s Grocery Store.
Lucille married Howard Schiltz on October 4, 1955 at St. Anne’s Church in Anneheim. They moved to Rosetown in 1956 where they raised their four children, Monty, Laura, Murray and Linda. They have eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
As a stay-at-home wife and mother, Lucille always had live-in boarders to supplement the family income and after all the kids were in school she began working at the local Rosetown Bakery. She worked at the bakery from 1976 until its closing in 2000.
Through the years Lucille had many interests and hobbies. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling, curling, and dancing. Lucille and Howard enjoyed many years as members of the local dance club, and they travelled extensively over the years especially after retirement. Lucille spent many hours knitting, crocheting, sewing, quilting, doing petite point, needle point and embroidery. Playing cards was a true passion of Lucille’s and she continued to play Bridge through her eighty-seventh year. Lucille and Howard also built a cabin at Jackfish Lake where they spent their summers with family and friends.
Lucille was an active member in the community, volunteering with various groups such as the Hospital Auxiliary and Home Care, Meals on Wheels, the Dare to Care cancer support group and visiting the elderly.
Lucille’s faith was a very important part of her life and she served her church community as a 69-year member of the CWL (Catholic Women’s League). During her time with the CWL she was very active in the yearly Fowl Suppers, annual tea and bake sales, catering various functions, and the annual retreats. She cherished the many life-long friendships that she made through this group over the years.
Lucille was a very kind, caring and compassionate person who was extremely dedicated to her family, friends, church and community. She will be remembered for her love of dance, her concern for others, and her love of baking and cooking which she always enjoyed sharing with those around her.
