Margaret GUNDERSON Obituary

Margaret Violet Gunderson (née Lee), affectionally known as “Muggie,” our Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma and Aunt passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 30, 2019 at the Kyle & District Health Centre at the age of 98 years. Left behind is a life dedicated to her family, friends and community.

In 1920, Margaret Violet was born into the family of Helen and Sanford Lee. She obtained her schooling at Russelton School.  Due to the strong sibling bonds with Leonard, Earl (Duds), Willard (Bill), Jack and Nona, the Lee farm was full of love and laughter.

In her life span, Muggie progressed from operating a telephone switchboard to using her own cell phone.

In January 1944, Ms. Lee became Mrs. Oliver Gunderson.  The couple settled into farming life in the Kyle area and added two sons to their ranks.  While they worked hard, they also took time to travel to interesting places.  During harvest, her version of “Meals on Wheels” fed the crew.

Muggie thrived on keeping in touch with her relatives, the little ones bringing her special joy. Her quick wit could catch you off guard. She enjoyed many hobbies, some of them being curling, golfing, crocheting, sewing and gardening.  She was a devoted member of the United Church and U.C.W.  A visit to the Gunderson farm meant heaps of delicious home-grown and home-made food.  And as one nephew remembers, “Always dessert!”  The cookie jars were never without goodies. She earned the title “Queen of Pie Making” and her strawberry jam put Smuckers to shame.  She showed her thoughtfulness for others through her baking.

Margaret is survived by son Wendell, son Arden (Marilyn) and grandchildren Leah (Dave) Domoney and Vanessa (Sean) Gordon, great-grandchildren Courtney and Nolan Domoney and Siobhan and Ronan Gordon. As well, there are many other relatives including nieces and nephews in Saskatchewan, Alberta, and BC.

The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Kyle United Church with Mr. Jim MacNaughton officiating. Interment followed at the Clearwater Cemetery.
