Margaret JEFFERY Obituary

Margaret Alta (Buttar)Jeffery, has been blessed with eternal sleep and is resting in the arms of those who have gone before. Margaret passed on March 15th at her home in Rose Villa in the tender care of her aids. She was the last of her family, predeceased by her parents, all her siblings, her son Allan in 2005 and husband Bert in 2012.  She is survived by her brother-in-law Earl (Bob) Stevens and numerous nieces and nephews.

Margaret was born in Rosetown, Sk. on October 30th, 1928. She was raised on a farm in the Dublin District near Zealandia.  The middle child of William and Sarah Buttar, she had three older siblings, William (Bill), Thomas (Tom), Alexander and three younger siblings, Douglas, James (Mac), and Helen.

Margaret attended Dublin School until year 12 when she boarded in Rosetown to complete her education.  Growing up on the farm her chores consisted of, putting in large vegetable gardens, and working in the fruit orchard her dad had started. She learned how to can and preserve vegetables and fruit from the garden and later in life passed these skills on to her children and grandchildren. She became Tom's farm hand during seeding and harvest when her older brothers were off serving in the war. After completing school Margaret worked in the Rosetown Bakery until marrying.  Upon her return to work she worked at the Rosetown Hotel, and then back to the Rosetown Bakery for 29 years before retirement.

On April 15th, 1952 she married Wilbert (Bert) Jeffery and was blessed with five children, Judy (Ward) Johnston, Edna Gowen, Allan Jeffery, Debbie (Allan)Cannon and Gordon (Connie) Jeffery.  This turned into 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.  She sewed numerous Christmas, graduation and wedding dresses for her daughters, knitted sweaters, baby blankets, scarfs and later quilts for her grandchildren until arthritis took her hands out of business. Her grandchildren and their friends were always welcome and she had a hot bowl of hamburger soup and some baking ready when they needed a lunch, after school snack, or place to go between hockey games, school sports, and dance classes.  Margaret's house was home, and home was always a safe place to land.  Her love of family had no limits.
