Mildred "Millie" PRELL Obituary

Mildred "Millie" Ellen Prell (née Hunt) passed away on November 13, 2021 at the age of 84 years. Millie was born to Chester and Annie Hunt (née Knight) on a farm near Shaunavon, SK, the oldest of 13 children. She is predeceased by her parents, her daughters Maria Ewen and Ramona Prell, daughter-in-law Cindy, brothers Roy and James, sisters Dorothy and June. She is survived by her son John, grandchildren Tamara (Justin) Herbert, Tyler Prell, Allison (Rick) Finnie, Christine Prell, Bryan Ewen and Mikayla Prell, great-grandchildren Emme, Jett, Josselyn, Leith, Olive, Rhys, Ryker, Meadow, Hallee and Sage, siblings Edith (Jack) Hardin, Raymond Hunt, Allen (Bev) Hunt, Donald (Shirley) Hunt, Kathleen (Lewis) Albert, Doreen Kemper, David (Lynette) Hunt and Barbara (Lorne) Pike, son in law Trevor (Lily) Ewen, special friend Terry Batty and many many nieces and nephews.

Millie spent her childhood in Shaunavon. She learned to play clarinet and violin, playing in the Shaunavon band with her brother Roy. Being the eldest sibling of a large family, she was always helping her mother and very much enjoyed spending time with her younger siblings, all of whom she loved dearly for the entirety of her life. She met Otto Prell, a German immigrant, marrying him in 1956. They eventually moved to Saskatoon where they raised their 3 children Maria, John and Ramona. Never one to sit idle, Millie always kept busy either working as a waitress or running a daycare while their children grew up. Once her children were grown and her marriage ended, Millie moved to Rosetown in the early 80's. This is place she called home and where she was happiest. She continued to work as a waitress, then as a cashier at 7-11 until her retirement at age 65.

Millie was an active member of her community. She spent countless hours volunteering wherever and whenever she could. She loved to spend time at the Senior Center, at Rose Villa or calling bingo at McNab Place. She loved to dance, play bingo, bowl and try her luck with lottery tickets. She was an avid collector of knick knacks and a zealous taker of pictures. Millie was not often without her camera and she put it to very good use.

Millie's selfless nature, her freely given hugs, sweet laugh and her fun, youthful presence will be missed beyond measure. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of her family, friends and all those who had the privilege of knowing her. She had a truly rare spirit. She was a kind and compassionate person who did not speak poorly of anyone, even if they deserved it. Millie lived through her fair share of struggles and strife but it never dampened her luminous spirit. She loved all people, always willing to help anyone. She genuinely cared for anyone who was lucky enough to have the opportunity to meet her.

Her family would like to extend thanks from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who helped and supported Millie along her journey. This includes (but is most definitely not limited to) her closest circle of friends, especially Terry, Barb S and Florine K. Her health care team who provided excellent care and doted on her. Her community of Rosetown who collectively gave Millie a happy, safe and supportive place to live.  There are so many more left unnamed, but you all know who you are! Thank you all.

A Come and Go Tea was held on Saturday, May 28, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Rosetown Senior Centre.
