Neil WAGAR Obituary

After a long battle facing the inevitable outcome of an aggressive brain cancer, Neil passed away peacefully at his home on the farm on Monday, May 4, 2020 with his family at his side.

Neil was born to Jean and Howard Wagar in Rosetown, SK on July 16, 1956. He grew up on the farm near Hughton with his Mom, Dad, brother Darcy and sister Gwen. He attended school at Hughton and Elrose, graduating in 1974.

With a farming career in mind, Neil then completed courses in Accounting at Saskatoon Business College and Heavy-Duty Mechanics at SIAST.  It was while attending SIAST that he met the love of his life, Marie Lindsay.  Neil and Marie married October 11, 1980 and took up residence on the home farm. Sons Travis (1983) and Craig (1986) completed their family of four. In 2004, they purchased a cabin at Turtle Lake, SK - a home away from home.

Neil loved his family with all his heart and was deeply involved with his boys, coaching them in life lessons and sports. He was proud to see them grow up to become successful young men with families of their own and beyond proud to be called “Papa” by his grandchildren.

Neil was “the best of the best” - an emotional kind of guy who wore his heart on his sleeve. He loved family, immediate and extended and cherished his friends, he loved to laugh and he loved his sports as a participant, coach and fan (Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Blue Jays and his boy’s local teams). His passion, however, was farming - all aspects of that lifestyle, tending the crops and maintaining his machinery, his many good neighbours, his home quarter and living in the house his Dad built. Neil was renowned for his immaculate farmyard and he never sat still!

Neil is survived by son Travis (Crystal), Nixon, Jordyn;  son Craig (Janine), Blayke, Weston;  brother Darcy (Anna) and their children Nancy (Chad) Martin, Chelsey, Brandon, Tyler, Dale Wagar; sister Gwen (Al) Tisdel and their children Jan (Lane) Gray, Zoe, Erin (Chantelle) Tisdel, Bailey, Alexys, Riley as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. He was predeceased by his wife Marie (2016) and his parents Howard (2005) and Jean (1986).

The family would like to thank all those who have supported Neil and his family throughout this long journey. As per Neil’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. The family will gather at a later date for a private memorial ceremony. Those wishing to make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society in Neil’s name may do so by mail at: Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK, S4P 2R3 or online at cancer.ca/donate.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
