Paul MOURRE Obituary

It is with sadness the family of Paul Mourre announces his passing on August 20, 2024, at Rose Villa, Rosetown, SK at the age of 84 years.

Paul was born October 20,1939, on a farm north of Zealandia, SK to Therese and Albert Mourre, joining his brother Robert. Later, the family unit was completed to include Denis and Edward. After living in the town of Zealandia for a short time, they moved to the family farm at Sovereign.

Paul attended elementary boarding schools in Biggar and Prud’homme and high school at le College Mathieu in Gravelbourg, SK. In 1957, when his father died at a young age, Paul began farming at the age of 17.

In 1969 Paul married Helen Senecal and they farmed together and raised three children: Denise, Michael and Danny. As well as farming, Paul was active in the communities of Sovereign and Milden, volunteering at the rink, the church and contributing to various community projects. He was a member of the Sovereign Lion’s Club, the Milden Central School Board and Our Lady Help of Christians Parish Council. After they moved to Rosetown in 2009, he was a dedicated fowl supper volunteer at St. Theresa’s, carving many turkeys to perfection, and assisted with Sunday morning breakfasts drying dishes while telling stories. He was also instrumental in the landscaping project at St. Theresa’s.

Even after they moved to Rosetown in 2009 he continued to be engaged in the farming operation as their son Dan gradually took over the family farm.

A master mechanic, fixer of all things big and small, his inventive mind was never idle-a snow plane, seed cleaning plant, air seeder, grain bagger and numerous adaptations and improvements to various implements were on his resume.

Music was his passion; he never met an instrument he didn’t like.  He played by ear: piano, accordion, saxophone, clarinet. He was a good dancer and together he and Helen danced a mean fox-trot at Sovereign dine and dances.

In August of 2023, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and shortly after was admitted to the Rose Villa where he was cared for with compassion and sustained by frequent visits from family.

The three pillars holding up the roof of his life were family, faith and farm. At the Villa he wanted to go to three places: The farm, church and home.

Paul is predeceased by his parents Therese and Albert Mourre. He is survived by his loving wife Helen, their daughter Denise, son Michael (Edith) and their children: Peter, Tomi and Rebeka; son Dan (Felice) and their children: Jackson, Erika, and Elliot; his three brothers: Robert (Marilyn), Denis (Armande) and Edward (Lillian) as well as numerous cousins, nephews and nieces, and brother and sisters-in-law.

A Vigil of Prayer will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Theresa's Parish, Rosetown, SK and the Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Theresa's Parish, Rosetown, SK with Reverend Father Habila Musa celebrating.
