Obituary

Peter was born to Isobel Mary Speir and James Robert Speir on January 21, 1944. He was the oldest of three boys being raised on the family farm North of Brock. Peter graduated from school in Brock and began a job trucking. After some years trucking, he was persuaded by his parents to continue his education which took him to DeVry University to become an electrician. He lived with his Aunt Isabelle and Uncle Al Harmer while he was away at school. He came back to Saskatchewan and shortly after started his life career at Sasktel. Peter was at Sasktel for over 30 years and became a very well-respected district manager of the Kindersley and Eston area. Through Sasktel and coffeeing he was a very well-known man in the area. Peter was also an active farmer throughout his life. Peter and his two brothers had a farm together “Speir Farms” Peter loved seeding and harvest and combining was truly his favorite. Peter's life took him down many paths one of which he welcomed daughters Leigh and Marsha into his life. In 1984 Peter met the love of his life Delores Simpson and together they welcomed their son James Speir into their lives. Peter and Delores raised James on the Speir family farm where Peter grew up. Peter, Delores and Jimmy moved to Delores family farm north of Rosetown in 2000 to take over the Simpson family farm. Peter loved being a father to James being a coach and sharing his love for the lake with his son and his friends. Peter started to farm with his son once James graduated and they started Speir Farming Company where they farmed together in Brock. Peter welcomed his daughter in law Jill Martens into the family in 2019 and his two very special granddaughters Jules Speir in 2020 and June Speir 2022. His grandkids brought a whole new joy to his life he loved watching them play and loved teasing them. He truly lit up every time he saw them or talked about them.

Peter was an amazing athlete. He was the best at hockey and also loved fastball and curling. Peter loved watching sports as well as reading and playing cards. Peter loved ice-cream and could often be found getting a snack out of the freezer. He also loved his cats and watching the birds in his bird feeder out of his window. The thing Peter loved doing the most was teasing and the only thing he loved more then that was being teased. He had a great sense of humor and an unforgettable laugh. Peter was a ladies man he put his charm on everyone he met especially the nurses he came across in his final years.

Peter had many battles in his life to overcome one of which he survived through AA, where he found a new outlook on life, a new found faith and met and mentored many lifelong friends.

Peter was pre-deceased by mother Mary Speir and father James Speir (wife Myrtle Speir) and nephew Owen Strutt. Peter is survived by lifelong partner Delores, son James (Jill), granddaughters Jules and June, brothers Robert (Sue) Mac (Maxine), step-sisters Maxine Taylor, Brenda Benjamin and nephews Jeff (Molly), Matt (Heather) and AJ (Katie).
