Rachel DICKSON Obituary

Rachel passed away peacefully on February 24th at the age of 99 at Orchard Haven Health Centre in Keremeos, B.C.  She was born on September 27th, 1918 at the family farm near Rosetown, SK; the eldest daughter of Aime and Yvonne Marchand.

Rachel was predeceased by her husband, Wemyss; her parents; brothers Deus (Louise), George (Mavis), Clement (Kay), Louis (Edna), Paul (Betty); her sisters Aurore Scriven and Maria Blake; brothers-in-law Bill Lekstrom, Myles McDonald, Laurent Mireau, Clare Blake and Albert Scriven; Wemyss' sons Dave and Gary and daughter-in-law Lorraine.

She will be remembered by her brother Emile (Carol), sisters Nora (Ken Kutz), Roseann Mireau, Cecile (Julian Paslawski), Annette McDonald and Doreen (Nick Medwid); Wemyss' daughters, Gail (Stan), Debbie (Gordon) and daughter-in-law Bea, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and  friends.

She grew up on the family farm. She was a loving, caring and generous sister and very special aunt to all her nieces and nephews. She was a wonderful cook and very talented seamstress. She spent many years working and caring for Bill Lawrence on a farm near Rosetown. After Mr. Lawrence passed away Rachel moved to Saskatoon, took a business course and worked as a secretary in the College of Nursing at the University of Saskatchewan.

In June of 1972, Rachel married Wemyss Dickson and moved to Deroche B.C. where they owned and operated a fishing vacation site.  They later retired to Chilliwack, B.C. After Wemyss' passing in 2005, and later due to failing health, Rachel moved to Keremeos to reside with her sister Annette. She eventually entered the Orchard Haven Health Centre where she passed away.

The family thanks the caregivers and staff of Orchard Haven for the incredible care and attention she received during her stay. We are also deeply indebted to Annette, Emile, and Carol for their loving care and daily visits during Rachel's last few years in the care home.

Rachel was a kind and loving friend to all, a devoted wife, a loving mother, and grandmother and great-grandmother to Wemyss' children.
