Richard Frederick Potter was born on May 19, 1952 in Rosetown, Saskatchewan to Fred and Verla Potter. He died peacefully, with his family by his side, on April 17, 2025 in Tisdale, Saskatchewan. After graduating from high school, Richard attended the University of Saskatchewan where he earned a Sociology degree. Throughout his career he worked in a variety of public service settings, eventually retiring as a Deputy Sheriff from the Court of Queen’s Bench.
Richard enjoyed sharing memories of travel to Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. You would never guess from his reserved nature, but Richard had a bit of a wild side: he enjoyed scuba diving, flying small aircraft, and skydiving in his younger years, completing more than 50 solo jumps. In his retirement, Richard developed a fondness for tattoos, ultimately completing full sleeves on both arms. He appreciated the quieter moments during his biannual trips to the Okanagan, though he was often recruited into activities we referred to as "forced family fun”.
Richard had a great love of dogs, especially Mastiffs. He could often be seen driving around Prince Albert with two giant dog heads hanging out of his car windows. We frequently joked that his children’s inheritance went mostly towards veterinary bills. All jokes aside, Richard cared deeply for his children and his grandchildren.
Richard is survived by his brother Chris, his children Andrew (Colleen) and Graeme Potter, his grandchildren Kable, Alexis, and Emmy and their mother Melissa Kereluk. He is also survived by his ex-wife Lynn Pehrsson Potter. He is missed the most by his loving Bullmastiff, Charlie.
