Robert BOYD Obituary

Obituary for Supt (Retired) Robert James George Boyd
18 May 1946 - 07 Sept 2025

It is with tremendously heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Boyd in Rosetown, Saskatchewan on 7 September 2025, at the age of 79 after a brave battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family in his last moments.

Bob was born on 18 May 1946 in Miami, Manitoba prior to moving to Fort Langley, B.C as a young boy before joining the RCMP in 1965. Bob rose through the RCMP ranks with postings in Unity, North Battleford, Broadview, Saskatoon, Rosetown, Gander, Courtney and retiring at the rank of Superintendent in Calgary in 2007. Bob was known as a policeman’s policeman and achieved legendary status amongst his fellow members. Always leading from the front, there was nothing he wouldn’t do to support his members and recognize the stalwart efforts his teams executed on a daily basis to serve and protect their communities. Bob took great pride in every posting to become an integral member of not just the local detachment, but the community itself. Always humble and never one to brag, Bob achieved national level recognition for some of the cases he managed both as an Officer and an ERT Team commander. The only thing that eclipsed his passion for his job was his family. A loving and devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, Bob loved nothing more than spending precious moments with his family. He made everyone around him feel special in their own way, and always recognized the special qualities of his children and grandchildren. When Bob wasn’t protecting and serving, he loved to farm, spend time at the rink watching hockey games, coach, but most of all he loved to visit, tell stories and laugh.

Bob was predeceased by his father Ralph, mother Muriel, brother Ted and sister Erin, father-in-law Ralph, mother-in-Law Dorothy and sister-in-law Dianne.

Bob is lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years Donna, children Michelle (Travis), Beverly, Jason (Deborah), grandchildren Brendan (Elizabet), Hailey (Tyler), Megan (Ryder), Samantha (Matthew), Taylor and Grace (Rayce) and great-grandchildren Remy, Rory, Charlotte, London (and soon to be little baby Jones).

Bob’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the care and treatment provided to him throughout his arduous journey. Specifically, the outstanding care he received from the Rosetown Hospital and Saskatoon Cancer Centre nurses, doctors and staff.

The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rosetown United Church followed by a time of fellowship at the Rosetown Legion. In lieu of flowers Bob has requested donations be directed to Parkinson’s Canada or Kidsport Rosetown (https://kidsportcanada.ca/saskatchewan/rosetown/donate/).
