Robert HANNAY Obituary

Myron Robert (Bob) Hannay was born in Rosetown Saskatchewan on April 9, 1933 to Inga and Jack Hannay.  Dad grew up in McGee alongside his three sisters Marg, Jackie, and Mary Anne. Dad went to school in McGee where on his way every morning he would deliver milk and cream to Smith’s  store. After high school, Dad went to Ontario with his friends, Jim Roach and Ron Holiday to work. It was there that Dad started to develop all the skills he used during this lifetime. During one of Dads times home, he attended a dance in Brock where he first met Jean Houston. Even though Aunt Millie and Uncle Freeman were leery about letting Mom ride home with Dad, she made it home on their first date in Lyndon Smith’s smelly old truck. Grandma Houston wasn’t sure about those McGee boys because they drove motorcycles for heavens sake!  But soon, Dad won Grandma over. Mom and Dad were married October 12, 1956 in Herschel United Church. Mom and Dad settled on the family farm at McGee where they spent the next 56 years. Dad was a master mechanic and a precise welder, his shop became the community’s place that everyone brought whatever needed to be fixed. “Just take it to Hannay’s shop!” Mom and Dad raised four children, Laurie, Pat, Trevor and Greg. The family trips in the station wagon and the camper were just the beginning of the travel that Mom and Dad experienced. Mom and Dad enjoyed numerous travel adventures with their family and friends including Hawaii to visit family for over 10 years annually. Dad was a sports fan, many years were spent participating and coaching ball, hockey, curling and attending stock car races. In 1999, they built a house in Rosetown where they lived until 2024 when they moved to Orange Memories. Even though Dad lived in Rosetown, the highway was well travelled to the farm with his lunch. Dad is survived by his wife Jean of 69 years, daughter, Laurie, (Greg), daughter, Pat (Les), son, Trevor, (Lauretta), son, Greg (Kathleen), and their families. Dad and Mom enjoyed their 12 grandchildren and cherished their 18 great grandchildren. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Inga and Jack, his two sisters Jackie and Mary Anne as well as numerous brother and sisters-in-law. Dad believed in working and playing hard, being kind to others and always helping in any way he was able. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
