Rosemarie Fernande (Belanger) GILCHRIST

With deep gratitude for a life very well-lived, the family of Rosemarie Fernande Gilchrist share the news of her passing on May 22, 2023, at Rosetown, surrounded by her dearest loved ones.

Fondly known to most simply as “Rose”, our Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma anchored our lives, and she will be deeply missed.  Not one to draw attention to herself, Rose lived her life in service to others through her hard work, generosity and kindness.  Rose had a way of finding fun in any activity and people gravitated toward her easy nature and spirited sense of humor.  

Born in Rosetown SK on June 12, 1930, Rosemarie’s formative years were spent in the Stranraer district on the family farm.  On November 05, 1953, Rose married Jim Gilchrist.  Together they made a home in the McGee district, where they farmed and raised their family of six children - a daughter and five sons.  Jim passed away in October 1993, a few short weeks before he and Rose were to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary.   Shortly thereafter, Rose moved to Rosetown.  On June 07, 1997, Rose and John Marjerison were married.  They enjoyed 23 happy years together until John’s passing in April 2020. 

The youngest daughter of long deceased parents, Joseph and Beatrice Belanger, Rosemarie was also predeceased by several siblings: brothers Lawrence, Joe and Buddy; and sisters Irene, Yvonne and Beatrice.  Surviving siblings are brothers Peter and Paul.

Family was the center of Rose’s life and her commitment to them remained steadfast throughout her many years.  Rose loved every generation of her family, those born to her and through her lineage, as well as those chosen and brought into the family fold, Stan (Debbie) Macewan and their families.  Rose leaves to honor her memory her six children, 17 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

A public graveside service will be held at the Rosetown Cemetery on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. 

A come-and-go social to celebrate Rose’s life, on what would have been her 93rd birthday, will follow immediately after at the Rosetown Senior Citizens Activity Centre.
