Ruby Eva Vrana (née Dunn) passed away very peacefully on January 27, 2026 in Rosetown, Saskatchewan. She was born August 3, 1930 in Big River, Saskatchewan to Eileen and George Dunn.
She lived in the Big River area until 1978 and was the devoted mother to Jan Healey, Sharon (Ken) Hodgson, Glen (Zorka) Scrimshaw, and Lynn (Kim) Scrimshaw.
On the family’s small mixed farm, Ruby was a steadfast homemaker who capably managed the farm while her first husband, Charlie, was away commercial fishing. When they sold the farm, she later worked as a waitress at the Big River Hotel, a job she loved because while working she also got to visit with coworkers and patrons.
Ruby was an active community member, known for her dedication to the Big River Legion Auxiliary, her avid curling, and her volunteer work at countless local events and venues wherever help was needed.
In 1978, she moved to Rosetown and was remarried to Paul Vrana in 1981. Ruby continued her life as a homemaker, becoming a familiar face at local craft shows where she sold her beautiful knitting and crocheted items. Her legendary buns, bread, and speckroses were highlights at every bake sale. Ruby cherished social connection, whether over long phone calls, at bingo halls across the region, or at garage sales in Mesa, Arizona, where she and Paul spent many winters.
Ruby was predeceased by her husband, Paul Vrana, son in law Jim Healey, her parents, and numerous siblings.
Her memory will be cherished by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who knew her for her generous spirit, skilled hands, and love of a good visit.
A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local charity in her name.
