Stanley STANEK Obituary

The family of Stan Stanek of Rosetown SK are sad to announce his passing on May 26, 2021 at the Rose Villa Care Home in Rosetown.

Stan was born at Rosetown on April 10, 1926.  He was the youngest of five boys born to Joe and Mary Stanek. Times were tough on the farm and at the age of four, Stan’s mom passed away. Joe took over raising his family alone with the help of Mary’s sisters.

From a young age, Stan wanted to farm.  His older brothers went on to other places and Stan stayed home to farm. It was on the farm that a pretty young school teacher caught his eye and he married Margaret Malerud of White Bear in January 1952. From this union two children were born, Cameron and Jill. In 1959, Stan and Margaret bought the farm on number four highway North of Rosetown. They continued to live there until 1979 when they moved to Rosetown. Cameron and his family moved to the farm and Stan and Cameron farmed together, growing grain and raising Charolais cattle and pigs.

Stan was a very community minded and over the years served on boards of the Rosetown Coop, hospital and still found time to MC almost every wedding or dance for miles around. Stan and Marg loved to dance and travelled many miles to enjoy this passion. Tragedy struck in 1987 when Marg was killed in a car accident. Stan was heart broken but life on the farm went on. Over the next years he had many bypasses and a valve replacement. Stan managed to keep working with Cameron until his grandson Rob joined the farm crew.

Stan loved to visit, tell stories and pull practical jokes some of which are legendary. Helping neighbours was also one of his favorite things. Stan would lend advice, machinery, labor or sometimes money most of which was paid back.

Stan continued to live alone in the house he and Marg bought in Rosetown. With yard work being too much, he made the move into a condo. On February 21st his health was failing and he moved to Rose Villa.

Stan is survived by his son Cameron (Susan) and their children Lana Stanek-Sebastian (Derek) and Rob Stanek (Jo-Anne); his daughter Jill Stanek; his three great grandchildren Burke Sebastian, Logan and Hailey Stanek and two sisters-in-law Verna Stanek and Fran Stanek. He was predeceased by his father, mother, five brothers Joe, Lloyd, Clarence, Cliff and half brother Jim as well as many brother and sisters-in-law.

The family would like to thank Dr. Dan Ledding and the staff at Rose Villa for the care they gave Stan.

At Stan’s request, there will be no memorial service. Donations may be sent to STARS, Hangar 21, 2475 Airport Road, Saskatoon, SK, S7L 1M4 or the Rosetown & District Health Centre Long Term Care Centre, P.O. Box 653, Rosetown, SK S0L 2V0 if one desires.
