Stuart Martin Walker was born April 9, 1951, in Rosetown to Hilary and Mervin Walker as the second youngest of six children. God took him to glory on September 16, 2024, at the age of 73 from the Royal University Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was raised on a farm in Glamis where he took his primary schooling and later attended high school at Rosetown Composite. He went on to study welding at the Institute of Applied Arts and Science in Saskatoon, from 1969 to 1970. While in Saskatoon, he worked for Early’s Seed and Feed and, more importantly, met his wife Evelyn McLachlan of Prince Albert, SK. Following graduation, he went to the coal mines in Sparwood, BC to ply his trade in welding, but after a short time he received a letter from his dad to come home and help with harvest. This is where his love of farming began. On October 20, 1973, Stuart married Evelyn and they settled at the third-generation Walker Farm. He farmed with his brothers Chester and Dennis and was also a grain buyer in the winters for Eagle Creek Seed Cleaning Plant.
Stuart had many hobbies. He played ball for the Glamis Giants and also had a successful career playing hockey, which began with the Glamis Knights. Between 1968 and 1980, Stuart played with the Junior B Saskatoon Macs, and Intermediate AA, A, and B Rosetown Redwings, winning a total of nine Provincial Championships. On July 18th, 2014, he and his teammates were inducted into the Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame. He was also a queen scout, and enjoyed curling, camping, downhill skiing, and golfing.
Stuart is remembered by his spouse of 51 years, Evelyn; his three daughters, Corrina, Christa (Stanley), and Pamela (Lee); and his grandchildren Braxton, Hilary, Naomi, and Joshua. He was a huge support in their extra-curricular activities, gave wise counsel on many occasions, and was an excellent provider who made sure that his family was well taken care of. He is also survived by sister Wilma (Robert) Graham, and brothers Dennis (Vivian), Chester (Rosalyn) and Jack (Sherry), as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Stuart was predeceased by his parents Hilary (nee Stephenson) and Mervin Walker, and baby brother Phillip.
