Valeda "Val" Marie (Desharnais) OGENCHUK

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, Valeda Marie Ogenchuk on May 20, 2024.  Val was born on April 4, 1932 in Ponteix to Alcide and Hosanna Desharnais.  She grew up on the farm with 9 siblings and received her education in Ponteix.  In 1948 Val moved to Rosetown and found a job working with her soon to be husband in his jewelry store.  Bill and Val were married September 29, 1954.  Together they had 6 children, Lorraine, Michael, Dianne, Dennis, Joanne and Elaine.

While the children were growing Bill and Val operated their well-established businesses, Bill’s Jewelry and Val’s Ladies Wear.  After closing her store, she continued to work outside the home at various jobs.  Val was always an active member of the CWL. Over the years she was known for providing room and board for many people. Mom enjoyed visits from her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards, gardening and baking and was famous for her cinnamon buns.

Val is survived by her daughters, Lorraine, Dianne and Joanne and her son Dennis (Alison) as well as 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Gilberte (Ernie), Sr. Simone and brothers Raymond (Judy) and Martial.  She was predeceased by her husband Bill, her son Michael and her daughter Elaine, as well as her parents, 5 siblings and numerous relatives.

The family would like to thank Dr. Dan Ledding and the caring staff of the Rosetown Union Hospital as well as Fr. Habila for his prayers and support.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 24, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Theresa’s Parish with Reverend Father Habila Musa celebrating. Donations in memory of Val may be directed to St. Theresa’s Parish, P.O. Box 818, Rosetown, SK, S0L 2V0. Rite of Committal to follow in the Rosetown Cemetery.
