Valerie Elizabeth (Kirby) FRERICHS

It is with sadness the family of Valerie (Kirby) Frerichs announce her passing on August 12, 2025 at Rose Villa.

Valerie was born Aug 29, 1944 in Leicester, England.  Growing up in England where she lived with her family and attended Nursing School.  Working in various hospitals as a nurse in the Leicester area until she immigrated to Canada in 1967 landing in Biggar, SK with a cousin.  Shortly after started a job at the Rosetown Hospital.  In 1968, she married farmer Dennis Smith and had two children Michelle and Trevor.  Valerie raised her children until such time she started working for Home Care and eventually a Special Care Aide at the Long-Term Facility in Rosetown, where she worked until retirement in 2007.   In 1994 Valerie married Ken Frerichs until his death in 2001.  Valerie was very involved in the Rosetown Legion for many years, taking on various volunteer roles from President to Poppy Fund Coordinator.  Valerie enjoyed holidays back to England and travelling in her retirement with her very special friend Jack Humble.  They both especially enjoyed Maui and the cabin at Clearwater Lake together. 

Valerie was predeceased by her parents Queenie and Walter and nephew Matthew Lloyd.  Valerie will be sadly missed by Jack Humble, her children Michelle (Cornell) Bond and Trevor (Theresa) Smith and 3 grandchildren McKenna, Kennedy and Mikhail.  In England, her twin brother Paul and older brother Michael (Linda) Kirby and niece Sharon and Nephew Lloyd. 

A gathering for family and close friends will be held in Rosetown. Donations in memory of Valerie may be directed to Breast Cancer Canada, 101-415 Exmouth Street, Sarnia, ON, N7T 8A4.
