William "Bill" Ambrose McDONELL

It is with sadness the family of William “Bill” Ambrose McDonell announce his passing on April 16, 2023 at the Rosetown and District Health Centre at the age of 96 years.

Bill was born on October 15, 1926 at Wartime, SK to parents William and Gertrude McDonell. He attended school at Wartime. Bill met Winnifred Walters and they were married on June 27, 1950. Bill and Winn farmed at Wartime until the early 1980’s. Bill was an expert farmer; an early experimenter with soil conservation and fertilizer applications. His fundamental farming model was “look after the land and the land will look after you.” In the early 1980’s, they built a home at Bayview on Jackfish Lake, Bill completing most of the work himself. Summers were spent golfing and enjoying life at the lake while winters were spent in South Texas and the Phoenix area. In 2011, they purchased a condo in Rosetown where they resided until his passing.

Bill is survived by his wife Winnifred of 73 years, his sister Eva as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his twin brother Leo and sisters Loretta and Theresa. Bill was a man of prayer and deep faith and he will be deeply missed by those that loved him.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Parish in Rosetown, SK with Reverend Father Habila Musa celebrating. Committal to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Saskatoon, SK. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
