William “Bill” Porter passed away peacefully with his daughter by his side in the Orange Memories Care Home in Rosetown SK. on December 16, 2022 at the age of 85.
Bill was born on December 18, 1936 in Rosetown, SK to William and Clara Inez Porter. Bill attended school at St Joesph’s Convent. From 1953 to 1963 he farmed with his father at Flaxcombe. In 1964 Bill and his Dad sold the farm at Flaxcombe and purchased land five miles southwest of Rosetown. Bill took over the farm in 1965 after his father suffered a stroke and was unable to continue farming.
Bill met Betty Puype and they were married on October 23, 1965. They settled on the farm where they raised Glenna and Doug. In 1973, a move to Rosetown was made. Bill continued to farm and look after the kids while Betty worked at the hospital. Bill continued to farm until 1997 when he retired.
Bill served on the local board of United Grain Growers, was a member of the Rosetown Elks, and the Knights of Columbus. Bill enjoyed golfing in Rosetown at Mens night and the seniors club.
Family holidays consisted of camping at Aquadeo and trips to the Shuswaps. A cabin was purchased at Aqaudeo where Bill and Betty enjoyed golfing and visiting with friends. The annual POOP golf tournament was always a highlight of the year.
Bill and Betty enjoyed travelling the world visiting most of the continents. Dance club, playing bridge, and bowling were activities that Bill and Betty enjoyed doing together. Bill also looked forward to travelling south to visit Glenna and Terry in California. Golfing was always a priority, and his golf clubs were always packed. Dad will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Bill leaves to cherish his daughter Glenna (Terry) Sparks and Cody Sparks, son Doug Porter; nephew Gerry Desharnais (Cindi), Aunt Lucille Hicks. Bill was predeceased by his parents William and Inez, sister Jeannie, niece Jackie and his wife Betty.
A Funeral Mass was held at St. Theresa’s Parish in Rosetown, SK on Thursday December 22, 2022 at 11:00am with Reverend Father Habila presiding.
